About Ahikaa

BACKGROUND

In 2013 Patua Te Ngangara ki Hoani Waititi Marae (PTN) opened a residential respite to accommodate users in recovery who, for whatever reasons, could not recover in their own homes.

PTN's (a Ministry of Health funded service), residential respite facility is unfortunately no longer operating.  Following this occurrence in order to help bridge the gap Ahikaa Trust was established by Te Roopu Ahikaa in recognition of the high need for bail & reintegration accommodation.

Ahikaa Trust now works in collaboration with PTN who delivers methamphetamine education and support to consumers and whanau who require support in coping with the effects of methamphetamine addiction.

The reality of extensive waiting lists into residential programmes is one reason why some are unable to start their recovery. It is also a common theme that clients are unable to return home to start recovery (for what ever reasons, legal or personal).

Most of our clients are on Court directed bail conditions and in recovery from drug use.

Ahikaa Trust has strict eligibility criteria and screening processes for entry.
